EdinburghSucks.com, the site that bills itself as "An attack on the politicians and officials who screw our city" has been picked as a finalist in the prestigious New Statesman New Media Awards.

EdinburghSucks.com, the new kid of on the block, was chosen from hundreds of nominations to be shortlisted for the 2006 awards to be presented in London on July 24th this year.

The site has only been in existance for a little more than a year but it has taken the city of Edinburgh by storm and is known to be essential daily reading for all politicians in Edinburgh so that they can really find out what is happening on the ground.

City politicians have taken to the air and the mainstream press to denounce the site but it keeps growing from strength to strength reaching up to 4,000 visitors per day with it's cutting commentary and expose of the failings of not only the City of Edinburgh Council but also the Scottish and Westminster parliaments.

A spokesman for the site who goes under the name of "The Basa" said today "We were extremely happy with the nomination and saw it as a great lift. We then found out that we were shortlisted and in the last couple of days we now find that we are one of the 4 finalists in the Independent Information category."

The Basa added, "The politicians must realise that there are people out there watching their every move. Technology today makes it extremely cost efficient to let those views be read by large numbers of people. For too long these people in power have hidden behind closed doors and used vast amounts of spin and spin-doctors to put out antiseptic crap in the hope of keeping the electorate happy. The time has now come for the questions and the need for transparency."
